Sport’s top court upheld the suspension through the 2025–26 season, affirming the FMF’s 2020 Assembly decision after an Aug. 28 hearing and a Sept. 4 award. Six Liga de Expansión clubs — Atlético La Paz, Atlético Morelia, Cancún FC, Mineros de Zacatecas, Venados FC and Leones Negros — lost the case, while Atlante, Cimarrones, Alebrijes and Jaiba Brava withdrew earlier. The appellants were ordered to pay CHF 12,000 in total to the FMF as a contribution to legal and related costs. The FMF said its General Assembly will determine the technical and eligibility rules for promotion, with certification/licensing remaining the key filter. Only Atlante had completed the FMF certification process as of mid-July, and the six clubs that pursued the case issued a joint note welcoming the 2026–27 return and pledging to coordinate with the FMF.
