Overview

  • The proposal for Nov. 4 would shrink Election Day polling places to 214 from 349 and reduce early voting sites to 24 from 51.
  • No early voting locations are proposed on county college campuses, which accounted for about 10% of early ballots in 2020.
  • Commissioners Alisa Simmons and Roderick Miles denounce the plan as limiting ballot access, while Republican Manny Ramirez says he has concerns and wants the formula behind it.
  • The Commissioners Court meets at 10 a.m. Tuesday to set sites, with public comment expected as activist groups organize to oppose the cuts.
  • A 2024 effort by County Judge Tim O’Hare to remove campus early voting failed 4–1 after hours of public testimony, and his and Commissioner Matt Krause’s offices did not respond to new requests for comment.
