Overview
- The second round on Sunday, October 12, will oppose Socialist Cathie Bourdoncle and Pierre-Henri Carbonnel, the joint UDR–RN candidate.
- Carbonnel led the first round with 29.40% ahead of Bourdoncle at 24.30%, making transfers and turnout decisive for the runoff.
- A cross-party anti–far right push has formed for Bourdoncle, with public calls from Renaissance’s Catherine Simonin-Bénazet, Démocrates & progressistes, the PCF, and an extreme-left alliance to block the RN-backed contender.
- LR’s national figures have urged votes against the left—Bruno Retailleau said “pas une voix à la gauche,” and vice president Julien Aubert said he would back Carbonnel—positions welcomed by UDR leader Éric Ciotti.
- Local LR voices, including first-round candidate Bernard Pécou and departmental secretary Mathieu Albugues, told supporters to vote by conscience, in a race triggered by Brigitte Barèges’s July ineligibility for illegal campaign financing.
