Target to Roll Out Next-Day Delivery in 35 Major Metros by Late October

The rollout reflects a market-based fulfillment shift that uses stores more selectively to boost speed without eroding profits.

Overview

  • Coverage will reach roughly 54% of the U.S. population, up from about 20%, in cities including San Diego, Orlando, Tampa, Charlotte, Cleveland, Kansas City, Pittsburgh and St. Louis.
  • Target plans to add about 20 more metropolitan areas in 2026, with some markets offering order cutoffs as late as 6 p.m. enabled by improved routing and forecasting.
  • About 85% of items are eligible for next-day shipping, which is free on orders over $35 or with Target Circle 360 or a Target Circle Card, and otherwise costs $5.99.
  • Operations are shifting to a market-based model that combines selective store fulfillment with dedicated fulfillment centers, 11 sortation hubs, Shipt drivers and national carrier partners.
  • A Chicago pilot concentrating shipping in fewer stores increased same-day speed and reduced delivery cost per item, informing the national expansion.
