Tapology Launches Data-Driven UFC Rankings, Drops Gaethje, Rakhmonov and de Ridder

Using performance metrics from each fighter’s last six bouts to rank every active athlete, the system offers an objective alternative to the UFC’s human panel.

Overview

  • Tapology’s new proprietary algorithm, five years in development, launched on August 4 and now publicly orders every active UFC fighter solely by performance data.
  • The ranking model weights strength of schedule, short-notice bouts and quality of wins and losses from each athlete’s most recent six UFC appearances.
  • Justin Gaethje, Shavkat Rakhmonov and Reinier de Ridder were all pushed out of their divisions’ top five under the new system.
  • UFC President Dana White has long criticized the promotion’s panel-based rankings and now faces a rapidly adopted outside alternative.
  • By listing all athletes rather than just a top 15, Tapology’s transparent ladder could bolster fighters beyond the UFC’s official contenders in matchmaking debates.
