Tank Dell Activated to Play for Texans in Week 7

Houston will use the roster move to cautiously test Dell’s recovery after a catastrophic 2024 knee injury and ease him back into game action.

Overview

  • Texans coach DeMeco Ryans announced Monday that Tank Dell was removed from the NFL’s 21-day practice window and added to the 53-man roster for Sunday’s game vs. the New York Giants.
  • Dell returns after roughly 22 months out following a Dec. 21, 2024 injury that dislocated his kneecap and tore the ACL, MCL, LCL and meniscus.
  • Coaches say there are no huge expectations for Dell and that he will get a limited, depth-oriented role as the team monitors his game speed and workload.
  • Houston’s receiver group now includes Nico Collins, Marvin Harrison Jr., Jaylin Noel, Xavier Hutchinson and Kayshon Boutte, which will shape how often Dell is targeted.
  • The activation gives Dell a chance to show he is healthy late in his rookie contract and could affect his short-term playing time and earning opportunities if he proves durable.
