Tampa Bay Rays Postpone Opener to Finalize Temporary Move to Yankees’ Steinbrenner Field

The Rays will play the 2025 season at the Yankees’ spring training facility after Hurricane Milton rendered Tropicana Field unusable.

The Rays’ home opener against the Colorado Rockies has been rescheduled for March 28, 2025, to allow additional time to prepare Steinbrenner Field for regular-season games.
Steinbrenner Field, the Yankees’ spring training stadium in Tampa, Florida, will serve as the Rays’ temporary home due to severe damage to Tropicana Field caused by Hurricane Milton in October.
The 11,026-seat stadium will feature Rays-branded elements, but key Yankees branding, such as the George Steinbrenner statue and large Y-A-N-K-E-E-S signs, may remain in place.
The Yankees will receive $15 million for the use of the facility, with the Rays allowed to sell advertising and merchandise at the venue during the regular season.
The Rays’ postseason game locations, if applicable, will be jointly decided by the Rays, Yankees, and Major League Baseball, while discussions about Tropicana Field’s long-term future or potential relocation continue.
