The Home Department placed M. Sundaresan under suspension after a DIG-led probe found he breached service conduct rules by making public allegations against senior officers.

Overview

  • A government order on July 19 charged Sundaresan with unauthorised media interactions and unfounded claims against top police officials in violation of the 1973 conduct rules.
  • The order clarified that his official vehicle was withdrawn for VVIP bandobust duty on July 11 and returned on July 17, contradicting his harassment allegations.
  • Deputy Inspector-General Ziaul Haque’s preliminary inquiry recorded accusations of insubordination and disobedience and recommended suspension for harming force discipline and morale.
  • Sundaresan’s public accusations followed his crackdown on 23 state-run bars and a human rights report on custodial torture submitted to the SHRC in mid-2025.
  • BJP and AIADMK leaders have denounced the suspension as political retaliation against his anti-corruption policing and demanded restoration of his duties and pension rights.
