Overview
- All 2,739 government hostels, housing roughly 179,568 students across Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes, denotified communities and minorities, will adopt the 'Social Justice Hostel' designation.
- Hostels currently named after prominent leaders will retain those names with 'Social Justice Hostel' appended.
- Existing welfare schemes, including financial assistance, scholarships and hostel services, will continue unaffected by the name change.
- A School Education Department order issued on June 25 set out measures to reduce caste and communal tensions among school students ahead of this renaming.
