Tamil Nadu Opens RTE 25% Admissions With Oct. 6–17 Window, Sets Oct. 16 Lottery

The restart follows the Union releasing RTE reimbursement funds after court directions.

Overview

  • The state issued the 2025–26 RTE notice on October 6, opening an online application window through October 17 for 25% seats in entry-level classes of unaided non-minority private schools.
  • Schools must upload entry-level seats filled as of September 30 by October 7 and identify the reserved RTE seats on October 8.
  • From October 9, parents must upload Aadhaar, birth, address, and income/community certificates along with the G.O. No. 66 parent declaration, with eligible and ineligible lists displayed on October 10 and 13 and the final list on October 14.
  • If fewer than 25% seats are filled, eligible children will be tagged in the EMIS portal on October 15; if oversubscribed, a random selection will be held on October 16 with tagging of selected children on October 17.
  • Priority goes to orphans, HIV-affected or infected, transgender, differently abled, and children of scavengers; schools cannot collect fees from RTE students and must refund any already taken within seven working days, and a 10-day online window will regularize eligible children already admitted.
