Tamil Nadu MP Sasikanth Senthil Begins Indefinite Fast Over Withheld SSA Funds

The protest targets the Centre's decision to link ₹2,151.59 crore in Samagra Shiksha funds to acceptance of NEP 2020.

Overview

  • Senthil launched the hunger strike on August 29 in Tiruvallur and says it will continue until the money is released.
  • The Union government has not disbursed ₹2,151.59 crore under Samagra Shiksha after Tamil Nadu refused elements of NEP 2020, including the three-language formula.
  • A state petition to the Supreme Court states the stoppage affects 43.95 lakh students, 2.22 lakh teachers and 32,701 staff, including reimbursements under the Right to Education Act.
  • Senthil alleges the Centre has bundled multiple education allocations such as teachers’ salaries and RTE funds, preventing access to specific components.
  • He has repeatedly raised the issue in Parliament and wrote to Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on August 19 urging immediate disbursal.
