Overview
- The Directorate of Census Operations said on Sept. 1, 2026 that the House Listing and Housing operations were completed statewide after fieldwork that began on August 1.
- Officials deployed more than 1.15 lakh enumerators and about 19,000 supervisors to cover nearly 1.2 lakh house‑listing blocks across urban and rural areas.
- Enumerators mapped buildings and recorded answers to 33 indicators on housing conditions, assets and access to services using a secure mobile app with geo‑tagging and real‑time server upload.
- A self‑enumeration window from July 17–31, 2026 allowed over 10 lakh households to submit details online, and authorities said all respondent data are protected under the Census Act, 1948 and the DPDP Act.
- The next Population Enumeration phase is scheduled for early 2027 with reports naming January–February or February, and the new housing baseline will feed District Census Handbooks and guide future planning and resource allocation.
