- On June 16 the Madras High Court ordered the arrest of ADGP H.M. Jayaram for allegedly aiding the abduction of a minor in a dispute over an inter-caste marriage.
- Jayaram was taken into custody minutes after the court’s direction and formally suspended by the Tamil Nadu government on June 17 pending further inquiry.
- Kilvaithinakuppam MLA M. Jagan Moorthy appeared before police on June 17 after the court instructed him to cooperate fully in a probe into conspiracy and obstruction of justice.
- Investigators have arrested five individuals so far, including the girl’s father, a former police constable and a lawyer, and recovered ₹7.5 lakh linked to the abduction plot.
- Jayaram has moved the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the Madras High Court’s arrest order, and both his custody status and the MLA’s anticipatory bail plea will be reconsidered on June 26.
