The cartoon criticized Modi's perceived silence on the deportation of Indian immigrants from the U.S. in shackles, sparking complaints from BJP leaders.
BJP Tamil Nadu chief K Annamalai filed complaints with the Press Council of India and the Union I&B Ministry, accusing Vikatan of defamation and DMK partisanship.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and other political leaders condemned the alleged action, calling it an attack on press freedom and democratic norms.
Vikatan's website was reportedly restored by Sunday afternoon, though government sources have not confirmed issuing any official order to block it.
