Tamaulipas Launches Second Aqueduct to Ciudad Victoria Under National Water Plan

The federally backed project will add 750 liters per second through a 36‑inch, 54.7‑kilometer line to ease chronic rationing.

Overview

  • Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya and Conagua director Efraín Morales López signed a collaboration agreement and kicked off construction of the new line from Presa Vicente Guerrero to Ciudad Victoria.
  • The project carries an estimated budget of about 1,800 million pesos and will be built with 36‑inch carbon‑steel pipe along a 54.7‑kilometer route.
  • Officials say the added flow will secure potable water for more than 350,000 residents for roughly the next 50 years and help end extended tandeos during dry seasons.
  • The state is complementing the conveyance with a new 1,500‑liters‑per‑second treatment plant financed with just over 600 million pesos.
  • The initiative is one of 17 projects in President Claudia Sheinbaum’s Plan Nacional Hídrico, with authorities also citing a 10 billion‑peso federal package for irrigation‑district technification and related works in Tamaulipas.
