TakeMe2Space to Launch India’s First Orbital Edge‑Computing Satellite

The flight will test running containerized AI models in orbit to return processed insights instead of raw data to cut downlink costs and speed analysis.

Overview

  • MOI-1A, which is scheduled to launch on October 1, 2026, on SpaceX’s Transporter-18 rideshare, is a sub-50 kg 6U CubeSat built to run AI inference in low Earth orbit.
  • The satellite carries Nvidia Orin NX edge processors, a 9-band multispectral imager, about 2 terabytes of onboard storage and a roughly 150-watt power budget.
  • TakeMe2Space has signed 23 customers for the mission from sectors such as agriculture, mining, supply-chain management and insurance, including US firm Little Place Labs.
  • The flight follows a late-2024 technology demonstration that validated on-orbit model uploads and inference and the loss of the original MOI-1 in a January 2026 PSLV third-stage failure, after which the team rebuilt the bus and secured the SpaceX ride.
  • The company says it designs most satellite subsystems in India, plans larger Generation-2 satellites from about 2027 with around 1,500 watts and 100 TB each, and aims for a 50 kW orbital compute constellation by 2029 while exploring in-orbit cold storage for critical data.
