Tajon Buchanan has become the first Canadian to play in Italy's Serie A, signing a four-and-a-half-year deal with Inter Milan for a reported fee of seven million euros.
Buchanan, a versatile player who can operate on the wing or at full-back, has won 35 caps for Canada and started all three of his country's group games at the 2022 World Cup.
Inter Milan pursued Buchanan following his impressive performances in the World Cup, and his transfer could elevate his game and transform the Canadian men's national team in newfound ways.
Inter Milan paid a transfer fee of €8.5 million ($9.3 million, £7.3 million) for Buchanan, and the fee could rise to between €10 to €11 million depending on certain performance bonuses.
Buchanan's contract with Inter is believed to run until 2028, and his former MLS side, the New England Revolution, will receive 10 percent of the profits made by Club Brugge on the original transfer.
