Taiwan Reports Record 66 Chinese Warplanes in 24-Hour Period

The surge in military activity coincides with joint China-Russia naval exercises and a NATO summit critical of Beijing's support for Russia.

Taiwan detected 66 Chinese military aircraft and seven naval vessels around the island in a single day, the highest number this year.
Fifty-six of the aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait, with some coming within 33 nautical miles of Taiwan’s southern tip.
The Chinese aircraft were reportedly headed to the western Pacific for exercises with the aircraft carrier Shandong.
China's latest show of force is seen as a reaction to recent political developments, including U.S. support for Taiwan.
Japan and the Philippines have also reported increased Chinese military activity near their territories.
