Taiwan Reports PLA Recon Drone Entering ADIZ Near Dongsha
President Lai frames the incursions as evidence Beijing’s authority does not extend to Taiwan.
Overview
- Taiwan’s defense ministry said a PLA reconnaissance UAV entered the southwestern ADIZ near the Dongsha (Pratas) Islands at 05:41 a.m. local time before departing after radio warnings.
- Officials said the armed forces are monitoring the situation and responding accordingly following the drone’s brief incursion.
- A day earlier, Taiwan detected 34 PLA aircraft, 11 PLAN ships and one official ship operating around the island up to 6 a.m. local time.
- Eighteen of those sorties crossed the Taiwan Strait’s median line into the northern, central, southwestern and eastern sectors of Taiwan’s ADIZ, according to the ministry.
- President Lai Ching-te pledged to safeguard Taiwan, rejected interference from China and cited the visit by China-born Japanese lawmaker Hei Seki to argue the ROC and PRC are not subordinate to each other.
