Overview

  • A jury found 42-year-old Tahir Syed guilty on June 10 of murdering his uncle Asghar Badshah between November 28 and December 6, 2019, in a row over an alleged £600,000 drug money theft.
  • Syed was also convicted of conspiracy to kidnap Badshah and of importing and supplying millions of pounds’ worth of heroin and cocaine into the UK from the Netherlands between 2016 and 2021.
  • Prosecutors showed that Syed organised a three-man “snatch squad” to abduct Badshah, who was tortured and killed in the basement vault of a disused bank in Batley where his body was discovered on December 29, 2019.
  • After fleeing via Amsterdam, Syed was arrested in Turkey in 2021 and extradited to the UK to stand trial at Leeds Crown Court.
  • The Crown Prosecution Service has announced plans to pursue Syed’s criminally earned assets following his conviction.
