Tabasco Raid Captures 14-Year-Old Alleged Crime Cell Leader Known as 'El Niño Sicario'

Officials are reviewing seized weapons, drugs and phone videos that they say could tie the suspects to kidnapping and a killing.

Overview

  • FIRT Olmeca’s Comando Tiburón carried out an October 12 operation at La Corregidora in Centro (Villahermosa), detaining a 14-year-old and a 37-year-old identified as José Asunción “N”.
  • Authorities say the minor tried to fire a Uzi-style submachine gun at officers, but the weapon jammed and he was captured without injuries reported.
  • Investigators seized suspected marijuana and crystal meth, long guns, ammunition and a phone containing videos authorities say show a kidnapped woman later released and another victim from Paraíso who was allegedly killed and buried.
  • The adult detainee reportedly told officers he took orders from a jailed figure known as “El Chicle,” held at the state reentry center in Tabasco.
  • The minor was turned over to child-protective authorities and the adult was presented to the state prosecutor and a control judge, with investigations ongoing.
