T-Mobile to Launch T-Satellite SMS Service via Starlink on July 23

Leveraging over 650 SpaceX Starlink satellites to eliminate mobile dead zones, the service paves the way for full satellite data connectivity on October 1.

Overview

  • T-Satellite will begin commercial SMS, MMS, picture messaging and short audio clips on July 23 with built-in 911 texting for emergencies.
  • A full data service will follow on October 1, enabling satellite-optimized apps to function in remote areas.
  • More than 1.8 million customers have joined the beta program, including subscribers from AT&T and Verizon.
  • T-Mobile is collaborating with Apple, Google, WhatsApp, AccuWeather and AllTrails to develop applications tailored for satellite connectivity.
  • Supported by over 657 SpaceX Starlink satellites, the network aims to fill gaps across more than 500,000 square miles in the U.S.
