T-Mobile to Launch Satellite Texting via Starlink This July

The service aims to eliminate mobile dead zones across more than 500,000 square miles by leveraging SpaceX satellites

Overview

  • On July 23, T-Satellite will enable SMS, MMS, picture messaging and short audio clips via Starlink connections with built-in 911 texting for compatible devices.
  • Starting October 1, the service will add data connectivity with satellite-optimized apps from partners including Apple, Google, AccuWeather, AllTrails, WhatsApp and X.
  • A beta program attracted over 1.8 million sign-ups, with hundreds of thousands of subscribers from AT&T and Verizon.
  • T-Satellite comes at no extra cost to subscribers of T-Mobile’s Experience Beyond plan and will be offered to other carriers’ customers for $10 per month.
  • Backed by more than 657 Starlink satellites, the network can cover over 500,000 square miles of U.S. territory.
