Overview
- After six months of testing by nearly two million users, including during California wildfires and Texas floods, T-Mobile has moved T-Satellite out of beta to full nationwide release.
- Compatible Android and iOS devices automatically switch to the service when off-network by linking to more than 650 Starlink low-Earth orbit satellites covering the continental US, Hawaii, southern Alaska and Puerto Rico.
- The service is free for T-Mobile Experience Beyond subscribers and costs $10 per month for others during an introductory period before rising to $15.
- AT&T and Verizon customers can subscribe to T-Satellite, making it the first carrier-agnostic direct satellite texting option for smartphones.
- T-Mobile plans to add picture messaging, voice capabilities and support for satellite-optimized third-party apps such as AllTrails, AccuWeather and WhatsApp.
