Syrian Forces Push Toward Tabqa, Order SDF Pullback East of the Euphrates

The push tests a fragile integration deal brokered last year.

Overview

  • Syrian army and transitional internal security units deployed in Deir Hafer after SDF withdrawals and reported ongoing clearing operations.
  • Government troops moved into Raqqa province, seized Debsi Afnan on the west bank of the Euphrates, and advanced in the direction of Tabqa.
  • The armed forces’ operational command demanded the SDF relocate fully east of the river, demilitarize Tabqa to enable civil administration, and cease actions it says obstruct stabilization.
  • The SDF called the advance toward Tabqa and the Euphrates dam a breach of arrangements reached with international mediators.
  • State outlets also reported operations extending east of Raqqa from Maadan toward SDF positions and said forces are tightening a cordon near the Tabqa military airfield, following a recent government declaration of a closed military zone east of Aleppo tied to alleged SDF-linked drone attacks.
