Syrian Army Seizes Tabqa and Key Oil Fields From Kurdish-Led Forces

The offensive followed a Kurdish rights decree, drawing cease-fire appeals from the United States and France.

Overview

  • Government forces moved into Tabqa, patrolled the city and reported taking control of the dam and the military airport as Kurdish-led units withdrew.
  • An NGO said the FDS pulled out of eastern Deir Ezzor, including the Al Omar oil field, while Syria’s Defense Ministry announced it retook the Safyan and Al-Tharwa fields in Raqqa province.
  • Syrian units also secured Maskana, Deir Hafer and the Jarrah air base near Aleppo after days of clashes around the Euphrates corridor.
  • The FDS accused Damascus of breaking withdrawal terms and reported artillery and rocket fire in Raqqa, where Kurdish authorities imposed a curfew.
  • U.S. Central Command urged a halt to offensive actions between Aleppo and Tabqa and France and Iraqi Kurdish leaders called for a cease-fire, as Damascus reported four soldiers killed and the FDS cited additional losses.
