Syria Launches Aleppo Operation Against SDF Positions After Curfew Order

Ankara says it is coordinating with Washington on the escalation in Aleppo.

Overview

  • Special units from Syria’s internal security forces began clearing operations in the Kurdish-populated Ashrafiya and Sheikh Maqsoud districts, with reports of fierce resistance and additional reinforcements sent.
  • The army’s operational headquarters announced a curfew starting at 13:30 and said it would strike SDF positions in Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiya and Bani Zayd, urging civilians to avoid those areas.
  • Casualty figures diverged, with earlier reports citing 11 dead and 81 wounded and an SDF update later reporting at least 12 killed and 64 injured after clashes resumed following a short ceasefire.
  • Official media reported that more than 10,000 residents fled affected neighborhoods, and Syria’s civil aviation authority suspended flights at Aleppo International Airport.
  • Turkey has adopted precautionary military measures, and Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said the government is in active coordination with the United States regarding the situation.
