Overview

  • The National Electoral Commission said voting for the 210-member assembly remains scheduled nationwide for September 15–20.
  • Seats allocated to Sweida, Hasaka and Raqqa will stay vacant until a safe environment allows polling in those provinces.
  • Commission spokesperson Nawar Najmeh described elections as a sovereign process conducted only in areas fully under government control.
  • Sweida experienced deadly sectarian clashes in July that killed hundreds and drew Israeli airstrikes, with access and security still strained.
  • Large parts of Hasaka and Raqqa remain under Kurdish-led SDF control as a March 10 integration deal stalls, and President Ahmed al-Sharaa can appoint one-third of the chamber.
