Symbotic Acquires Walmart’s Robotics Unit

Walmart invests $520 million in Symbotic to develop AI-driven systems for faster pickup and delivery services.

Symbotic will pay Walmart $200 million for its Advanced Systems and Robotics business, with up to $350 million in additional performance-based payments.
Walmart has committed $520 million to fund the development of AI-enabled automation systems for its Accelerated Pickup and Delivery (APD) centers.
The partnership, which began in 2017, will expand to deploy Symbotic’s systems in 400 APD centers across the U.S., with potential for further rollout.
Symbotic expects the deal to increase its backlog by $5 billion and significantly broaden its market in e-commerce logistics and last-mile delivery solutions.
The acquisition is set to close in Q2 2025, and Symbotic's stock surged over 20% following the announcement, reflecting investor confidence in the expanded partnership.
