Overview

  • Sweeney spent three and a half months training for the role, gaining over 30 pounds through daily weightlifting and kickboxing sessions to mirror Martin’s physique
  • The untitled biopic, directed by David Michod and co-written by Mirrah Foulkes, wrapped filming in June and is now in post-production for a late-2025 release
  • To complete Martin’s look, Sweeney wore brown contact lenses and a brunette mullet wig, winning praise from Michod for her unwavering dedication on set
  • Christy Martin broke gender barriers in the 1990s—gracing Sports Illustrated’s April 1996 cover, winning the WBC super welterweight title, and entering the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2020—and survived a 2010 attempt on her life by her then-husband
  • Following the biopic, Sweeney has already moved on to shoot Euphoria Season 3 and is set to produce and star in projects including The Housemaid, Scandalous! and a Barbarella remake
