Overview
- The new timetable is scheduled to start on November 15 with Trip Planner updates from November 1 and it separates South Coast intercity and T4 suburban services by assigning dedicated express tracks between Arncliffe and Central.
- T4 services will run more often in peak periods with average headways falling to about 7½ minutes at key stations and city‑bound trains as frequent as every three to four minutes from some suburbs.
- South Coast peak services will rise from three to four trains per hour and off‑peak weekend services will roughly double to about every 30 minutes, adding more than 200 South Coast services a week and extra shuttles such as Thirroul to Wollongong runs.
- The timetable intentionally trades faster single‑run journeys for extra stops, adding up to 14 minutes on parts of the T4 and about six minutes between Wollongong and the Sydney CBD, which will increase weekly commute time for many riders.
- All South Coast trains will terminate at Central and stop at Sydenham while bypassing Wolli Creek, which forces some airport travellers to change services more often and raises concerns for passengers with luggage or mobility needs despite officials pointing to improved reliability and capacity.
