Sydney Man Charged with Murdering Wife Using Homemade Spear

Talaat Hawatt allegedly killed his wife, Khouloud Bakour Hawatt, months after a court lifted a domestic violence order against him.

Khouloud Bakour Hawatt, a 31-year-old mother of five, was found dead in her Sydney apartment on December 11, allegedly killed by her estranged husband, Talaat Hawatt, with a homemade spear.
Police arrested Talaat Hawatt, 35, shortly after responding to a welfare call and charged him with murder and violating a domestic violence order.
A domestic violence order issued in February 2024 had initially barred Hawatt from contacting his wife, but it was later modified in August to allow him to return home following his request to the court.
The couple, married in 2015, had a history of domestic violence incidents, with neighbors frequently reporting disturbances in their home.
The murder has drawn attention to domestic violence issues, with police officials expressing concerns over the safety of women and the impact on the couple's five young children, now left without parents.
