A major health warning has been issued after three people were hospitalised with Legionnaires’ disease in NSW.

  • Eleven patients with Legionnaires’ disease have been hospitalized and one person received outpatient treatment alongside the single reported fatality.
  • Three infections in Potts Point expanded the total outbreak count to 15 confirmed cases.
  • Testing of over 165 cooling towers detected Legionella bacteria at one site, which is now being decontaminated and retested.
  • NSW Health and the City of Sydney are systematically inspecting and sampling all potentially implicated cooling towers across the CBD.
  • Anyone who visited the Sydney CBD or surrounding suburbs between March and April should monitor for fever, chills, cough or shortness of breath that may develop up to 10 days after exposure.
