Overview

  • Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) has formalized the termination of Eurocity 7 (Hamburg) and Eurocity 9 (Dortmund) at Basel SBB due to persistent delays from Deutsche Bahn.
  • The change, effective April 29, 2025, will remain in place until at least the mid-December timetable revision.
  • Previously, only trains delayed by more than 20 minutes were stopped at Basel, but this is now a fixed operational measure.
  • Return journeys on Eurocity 6 and 8 from Switzerland to Germany remain uninterrupted, as these services use Swiss-operated trains.
  • SBB reports that over 40 direct daily train services continue to link Germany and Switzerland, with alternative routes available via Schaffhausen and Bregenz.
