Overview

  • Sebastian D., 44, disappeared on July 30 after departing the Almagellerhütte near Saas-Almagell for the Weissmieshütte and has not been heard from since.
  • At the family’s request, the Kantonspolizei Wallis issued a public missing-person notice with his image on August 4.
  • The challenging trek spans glacier-scored terrain requiring ice axe, helmet, harness and crampons and is generally recommended only with a mountain guide.
  • Search teams have found no trace of the German hiker and warn that shifting weather and avalanche risk can hamper rescue operations.
  • Anyone with information is urged to call the Kantonspolizei Wallis 24/7 hotline at 027 326 56 56.
