Overview
- ASTM International issued a global production specification for Swift Fuels’ 100R, a key milestone in the transition away from leaded avgas.
- The FAA already allows 100R in Cessna 172R and 172S models with Lycoming IO-360-L2A engines, and Swift expects the Approved Model List to expand soon.
- Swift says it ran hundreds of tests with FAA oversight and input from major OEMs, producing data the agency can use to approve more aircraft and engines.
- 100R is supplying a small set of flight schools in the U.S. and Europe, and the specification removes a major barrier to wider distribution pending further FAA action.
- AOPA welcomed the approval and reiterated the 2030 unleaded goal, noting industry reluctance to distribute GAMI’s STC-only G100UL without ASTM review.
