Overview
- Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat inaugurated the Jaisalmer–Delhi (Shakur Basti) service on November 29 and announced its name as the Swarn Nagari Express.
- The route will connect Jaisalmer with major Rajasthan stops including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ramdevra, Makrana, Alwar, Rewari and Gurugram before reaching Delhi.
- The rake will include First AC, Second AC, six AC 3-tier coaches and four general coaches to serve different passenger segments.
- Vaishnaw said about Rs 55,000 crore of rail projects are in progress in Rajasthan, with DPR work advancing for a new border-side line linking Anupgarh, Khajuwala, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer and extending to Bhabhar.
- Jaisalmer station redevelopment and a new coaching depot are underway, with completion targeted in about a month and an invitation to the Prime Minister planned once the upgrade is finished.
