Swan on Tracks Disrupts Greater Anglia Services

Greater Anglia has deployed a response team to remove the bird with disruption expected to continue until around noon.

Overview

  • A swan was spotted on the tracks in the Harold Wood area, forcing trains to run at reduced speed and causing delays on services between London Liverpool Street and Ipswich and on routes to Norwich, Clacton-on-Sea, Colchester Town and Southend Victoria.
  • Greater Anglia and Network Rail said crews are on site attempting to remove the swan and that safety measures are keeping trains at lower speeds while the incident is handled.
  • The operator warned passengers to expect disruption until around midday and issued live updates through its JourneyCheck service.
  • Advance-purchase ticket holders may travel on earlier or later services if their booked train is cancelled and passengers may be eligible for compensation for delays of 15 minutes or more.
  • Birds on or near tracks are a known recurring cause of surface-rail disruption in the Ipswich area and operators routinely slow or hold services to protect both passengers and wildlife.
