Swami Chaitanyananda Arrested in Agra, Sent to 5-Day Police Custody

  • Delhi Police tracked the 62-year-old to a Taj Ganj hotel in Agra and arrested him around 3:30 am on Sept 28 after nearly 50 days on the run during which he changed appearances and hideouts.
  • He was brought to Delhi and produced before Duty Magistrate Ravi, who approved five days of police custody in the Vasant Kunj case involving female students of a private management institute.
  • Police say nearly ₹8 crore linked to him has been frozen across 18 bank accounts and 28 fixed deposits, and investigators allege ₹50–60 lakh was withdrawn after the FIR using accounts opened with varied particulars.
  • Investigators recovered fake visiting cards claiming United Nations and BRICS affiliations and fabricated diplomatic-style number plates, while FSL examines seized DVRs, NVRs and hard disks tied to campus CCTV.
  • Complainants, many admitted under EWS scholarships, allege confiscated phones and original certificates, CCTV surveillance, and threats over grades or expulsion, with earlier cases from 2009 and 2016 noted by police.
