Suzuki Sets November 16 Launch for e SKY Electric Minicar

Low certified energy use with subsidy-cut pricing aims to lower the cost barrier for gasoline kei owners to switch to EVs.

Overview

  • Suzuki confirmed on Tuesday that the e SKY will go on sale in Japan on 16 November 2026 as the company’s first fully electric passenger minicar.
  • Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism certified the e SKY’s AC energy consumption at 97 Wh/km, a figure Suzuki highlights as class-leading.
  • Suzuki cites a driving range of about 310 kilometers but has not published the car’s battery capacity or the full test basis that underpins that number.
  • The company announced a ¥2.1 million base price that Suzuki says could fall to about ¥1.6 million after government subsidies, a move intended to undercut rivals such as BYD’s Racco and Nissan’s Sakura.
  • Suzuki is targeting roughly 1,000 monthly sales and says the e SKY’s lightweight Heartect-e platform, regenerative braking and efficiency focus are designed to persuade gasoline kei drivers to switch to EVs, which could sharpen price competition in Japan’s key minicar market.
