SUV Driver Dies After Rear-Ending Snowplow on I-94 in Waukesha

State Patrol urges drivers to give plows more space during the ongoing investigation.

  • The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. Monday on westbound I-94 near Springdale Road when a dark-colored SUV struck a Waukesha County plow that was clearing the shoulder with warning lights activated.
  • The SUV driver was taken to a hospital and died from their injuries, and authorities have not released the victim’s name.
  • The plow operator was not injured and, along with passersby, tried to free the trapped driver until fire crews arrived.
  • Westbound I-94 was closed with traffic diverted at Highway 18/Bluemound/Barker Road, and lanes reopened shortly after 1 p.m. following on-scene investigation.
  • Wisconsin State Patrol continues to examine how the collision occurred and reminded motorists to stay at least 200 feet behind working plows and to follow the Move Over Law.
