Sustained Monsoon Rains Lift Mumbai’s Reservoirs to 99.5% Capacity

Heavy monsoon inflows have lifted storage to near capacity to ease short‑term supply concerns.

  • BMC data shows the seven lakes held 14,37,132 million litres on September 23, equal to 99.51% of capacity, up from 99.29% a day earlier.
  • Individual levels stand at Tansa 100%, Modak Sagar 100%, Middle Vaitarna 99.50%, Upper Vaitarna 99.58%, Bhatsa 99.27%, Vehar 100% and Tulsi 100%.
  • The IMD issued a yellow alert for Mumbai with a forecast of cloudy skies, light to moderate rain, isolated thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds near 30–40 kmph.
  • Rain in the 24 hours to 7 am Tuesday measured 46.18 mm in the city, 27.62 mm in the eastern suburbs and 38.79 mm in the western suburbs.
  • Lower, Middle and Upper Vaitarna plus Tansa feed the western zones, while Bhatsa, Vehar and Tulsi supply the east via treatment at the Panjarpur plant, with officials advising caution in low‑lying and coastal areas.
