Fire crews were called to Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne's south-east shortly after 6am on Tuesday to battle a significant blaze in the grandstand.
The fire, which engulfed parts of the grandstand and a restaurant, was brought under control just after 7am, with no injuries reported.
Local residents were issued a smoke warning, and a community advice alert covered several nearby suburbs, including Caulfield, Malvern, and Glen Huntly.
Victoria Police have deemed the fire suspicious and established a crime scene, with investigations underway into the cause of the blaze.
