Suspected Tornado Damages Alabama Schools, Injures Five Students

Emergency crews in Dothan, Alabama, continue recovery efforts after a storm caused significant damage to schools and left thousands without power.

A suspected tornado struck Dothan Preparatory Academy on March 31, 2025, severely damaging the gymnasium roof and causing minor injuries to five students, two of whom were hospitalized.
Other schools in the district, including PASS Academy and Dothan City Virtual School, also sustained structural damage during the storm.
Over 3,100 residents in Houston County lost power due to the storm, with utility crews actively working to restore service.
Emergency response teams confirmed all students and staff were accounted for, and a reunification point was established at Doug Tew Recreation Center for parents to pick up their children.
Local officials, including Mayor Mark Saliba, emphasized the community's preparedness and ongoing recovery efforts, noting that the damage could have been much worse.
