Suspected Irritant Gas Release Injures 11 at Berlin School

Emergency services responded to a strong odor at a Berlin-Schöneberg school, where students and staff suffered minor injuries.

Eleven people, including nine students and two teachers, were lightly injured at the Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Oberschule in Berlin-Schöneberg due to suspected irritant gas exposure.
Authorities were alerted around 1 PM, prompting the deployment of 85 emergency responders, though a helicopter was called off and not used.
Students and staff evacuated the building independently, and natural ventilation helped disperse the gas within 90 minutes.
Two injured students sought outpatient treatment at a clinic, while the remaining individuals were treated on-site.
Police have launched an investigation into dangerous bodily harm but have not yet identified a suspect or determined the source of the gas.
