Suspected DUI Driver Topples Vista Power Pole, Cutting Electricity for Over 100 Customers

Overview

  • The crash occurred around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday when a sedan driven by a 28-year-old veered off East Vista Way into a utility pole, prompting an overnight closure of the busy thoroughfare
  • The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI at the scene and transported them to a hospital for treatment; no other injuries were reported
  • The impact left the pole leaning and severed power lines, cutting electricity to as many as 103 customers in the surrounding neighborhood
  • SDG&E crews worked through the night to replace the fallen pole, realign power lines and clear debris before reopening the road
  • Utility officials confirmed restoration of electricity to all affected homes and businesses by approximately 2:30 p.m. Wednesday
