Overview

• Wilfredo Chaves Arzola, 32, was arrested and charged with intoxication assault with serious bodily injury involving a peace officer and reckless aggravated assault with a deadly weapon involving a peace officer.
• The crash happened around 4 a.m. near Ella Boulevard as deputies responded to a report of a man in the roadway when a vehicle hit their patrol units and then struck them outside their vehicles.
• A constable’s corporal was life-flighted to Memorial Hermann Hospital and is out of surgery in stable condition, while a female deputy was treated and released Thursday afternoon.
• The man initially reported on the tollway was in a patrol vehicle during the collision, was injured, and was taken to HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest, while another person was treated at the scene and released.
• Eastbound lanes were closed for more than four and a half hours before reopening as the investigation continues.
