Suspected arson razes farmhouse at Princess Diana’s Althorp Estate

Police have launched a criminal inquiry after firefighters razed an unoccupied 18th-century farmhouse at the Spencer family’s estate.

  • The blaze broke out around 1:30 a.m. on May 28 at Dallington Grange on Mill Lane, prompting four Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue crews to contain the fully engulfed structure.
  • The two-storey farmhouse was vacant when it was torched, and no injuries were reported; conservation manager Adey Greeno confirmed the fire was a deliberate act and the ruins were demolished for safety.
  • Charles Spencer, Diana’s brother and current custodian, posted images on X of the destroyed building and thanked fire crews for their response.
