• Police identified the suspect as 31-year-old Andre Anthony Matijasevic of Rancho Santa Margarita, wanted in the fatal shooting of a woman in a Carlsbad apartment parking lot Friday night.
• The victim’s maroon Kia SUV was stolen during the attack, and license plate readers later flagged the vehicle as it entered Orange County.
• Newport Beach officers spotted the SUV near Newport Coast Drive and Pacific Coast Highway, and the pursuit continued onto I-5 before stopping near El Toro Road and Avenida de la Carlota outside an In-N-Out.
• Authorities say the driver exited and opened fire on Newport Beach and Irvine officers, who returned fire; the suspect was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, and no officers were injured.
