Overview
- On Sunday at about 22:00 in central Metz a 56-year-old man threatened a passerby from his apartment window with a long-barrel firearm, prompting a large-scale police operation.
- Investigators recovered an arsenal of handguns and shoulder weapons in his flat, including two .44 Magnum pistols, and noted his nine prior convictions.
- At around 2:52 a.m. the man opened fire on officers, injuring one in the hand before being shot in the abdomen and arm by a fellow officer.
- He was hospitalised in critical condition and died Monday morning; the wounded officer is recovering in stable condition.
- The IGPN is examining whether the officer’s use of force was legal, and prosecutors have launched a flagrance inquiry for attempted murder against the 56-year-old suspect.
